Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone discusses Julian Alvarez’s future amid interest from Arsenal and Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has provided a crucial update regarding Julian Alvarez’s future amid ongoing transfer speculation. The Argentine forward has recently emerged as a significant target for both Arsenal and Barcelona as the summer transfer window nears its end.

Alvarez, previously of Manchester City, has found himself at the center of intense rumors linking him with a move to Barcelona. Complicating matters is a legal dispute between the two illustrious clubs, which only adds to the friction surrounding Alvarez’s potential transfer.

Simeone expressed his confidence in the club’s leadership, indicating that the management has clearly communicated their stance to all interested parties. It appears that Atletico is reluctant to allow their prized asset to join a domestic rival in Catalonia, particularly given the current discord between the two clubs.

“I think if the club owner spoke so bluntly about what he said, that’s all there is to it, it’s more than clear. This is like when you go to court… there’s nothing more to it,” Simeone stated when addressing the situation.

On another note, Simeone confirmed that Alvarez will not participate in Atletico’s La Liga season opener against Malaga this Wednesday night, raising concerns about his readiness to play amidst the transfer frenzy. In light of the heightened attention on his future, Simeone clarified that Alvarez’s omission from the matchday squad was purely based on his current athletic condition after returning late from international duty.

“I still think the same way. I take care of the sporting side. We’ve been talking as we always do,” he explained, regarding Alvarez’s integration into the team. “From a sporting perspective, we need more training sessions with him so he can improve. He’s one of the best attacking players… if not the best.”

In addition to discussing Alvarez, Simeone also praised the recent arrival of Cristian Romero, expecting him to bring enhanced aggression and leadership to the Atletico defense. The manager emphasized that Romero’s defensive capability will serve as the foundation for the team’s overall performance this season.

Discussing Romero’s characteristics, Simeone noted, “Leadership, strength, hierarchy, commitment, quality and belonging surely over time. I see him as a footballer who represents the values and comes to help us.”

As the transfer window remains open, Simeone expressed his awareness of the potential for further changes in his squad. He acknowledged the unpredictability of the market and stressed the importance of being prepared for any scenario before the deadline. While satisfied with his current roster, he reiterated that his primary focus is on the conditioning and readiness of his players.

“It is a somewhat tricky question. We have to adjust what we see best to get the best out of the team we are going to continue to have, which we still don’t know. There is still market left to finish; nothing surprises me… we are prepared for whatever,” he concluded.
