Rodri has decided to join Barcelona after pivotal advice from Pep Guardiola, opting against a move to Real Madrid.

Rodri is on the verge of finalizing a high-profile transfer to Barcelona, having turned down Real Madrid after an influential conversation with former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. The Spain midfielder is set to make the move to the Catalan club, a choice he arrived at after reflecting on Guardiola’s advice regarding his playing style.

Having recently arrived in Barcelona to complete the transfer, Rodri was previously linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite the allure of joining Los Blancos, a crucial discussion with Guardiola, which underscored the attributes of Barcelona’s tactical approach, led him to believe that the Catalan club represented a better fit.

Rodri, who was named the best player at the 2026 World Cup and remains a strong candidate for this year’s Ballon d’Or, had attracted interest from numerous top European teams due to his remarkable performances on the international stage. Although he faced physical challenges recently, his value in the market remained high.

His decision to reject Real Madrid seemed imminent, but Guardiola’s intervention was key. The former City coach positively influenced his thoughts, emphasizing how Barcelona’s style would allow him to integrate effortlessly into the squad.

During an appearance on the Spanish television show El Chiringuito, reporter Juanfe Sanz detailed Rodri’s reliance on Guardiola’s insights before making a definitive choice on his future. Guardiola’s guidance held considerable weight; he advised Rodri to embrace the opportunity with Barcelona, suggesting that their footballing philosophy was closely aligned with what he experienced under Guardiola’s management at Manchester City.

This reassurance came as Rodri harbored concerns about joining Real Madrid, particularly regarding his fit within Jose Mourinho’s system and potential challenges related to collaborating with Vinicius Junior, following previous tensions. Barcelona’s offer, which promises a style more aligned with Guardiola’s philosophy at Manchester City, ultimately made his decision easier.

With the move to Barcelona now on the brink of completion, Rodri is scheduled to undergo a medical examination prior to finalizing the agreement. Following that, he will be officially introduced as the newest member of the Blaugrana, marking a significant chapter in his professional journey in Spain.
