Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, and Micah Richards’ podcast returns to Netflix for the Premier League after a successful World Cup series.
Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, and Micah Richards are set to continue their journey in the streaming realm as their podcast, ‘The Rest Is Football’, returns to Netflix for the 2026-27 Premier League season. This comes on the heels of an impressive run during the 2026 World Cup in North America, where the show recorded over 40 daily episodes from a dedicated studio in New York.
Netflix has officially confirmed the return of ‘The Rest Is Football’ for the upcoming Premier League campaign, following the show’s immense popularity during the World Cup. The upcoming season will see a shift from the daily format to a weekly schedule, with new episodes airing every Monday and Friday beginning this August. This coverage will stretch across the entire 40-week football calendar, offering in-depth analysis of both the Premier League and the Champions League.
The newly negotiated two-year deal between Netflix and Goalhanger, the podcast’s production company, notably includes coverage of Euro 2028, which will be hosted by the UK and Ireland. This long-term partnership secures the ongoing collaboration between Lineker, Shearer, and Richards for major tournaments.
In a statement reflecting on the show’s success, Tony Pastor, co-founder of Goalhanger, mentioned: “We launched The Rest Is Football after the last World Cup, and it’s incredible to see how far the show has come in such a short space of time. We began from such a strong position because Gary, Alan and Micah are genuinely close friends who talk about football together constantly. The aim was to capture that warmth, wit, and energy, and make listeners feel part of the conversation.”
Pastor expressed gratitude towards Netflix for allowing the show to maintain its unique character. “Netflix allowed us to preserve everything that makes the show special: sometimes serious, frequently hilarious, but always genuine and warm. We’re delighted that Netflix has enjoyed working with the show this summer and has chosen to extend the partnership for a further two years,” he added.
Lineker, who not only hosts the podcast but is also a co-founder of Goalhanger, is excited about continuing the project. He shared his enthusiasm for the unique atmosphere experienced during the World Cup production in New York, noting its role in the podcast’s evolution. “We had a brilliant time making the show during the World Cup. And the response was incredible, so it’s great to be back on Netflix every week throughout the Premier League season. The Rest Is Football podcast will continue across the week too, while the Netflix show gives us another chance to get stuck into the biggest stories,” Lineker said.
As the football world shifts its focus back to club matters, with Spain recently crowned champions at the conclusion of the World Cup, the stage is set for the 2026-27 Premier League campaign, starting on Friday, August 21. Lineker and his colleagues are poised to analyze the opening weekend’s action as the show prepares for another year.
This upcoming season marks a significant milestone, as it will be the third full year since the show’s launch on August 11, 2023. By partnering with a global streaming platform, Lineker and his fellow hosts are uniquely positioned within the evolving media landscape, transforming their podcast into a flagship program that caters to the rising demand for engaging, personality-driven sports content.
