Arsenal shifts focus to Yan Diomande after Chelsea’s record deal for Morgan Rogers, pursuing a new direction in the summer transfer market.
Arsenal has made a notable shift in its summer transfer strategy by turning its attention to RB Leipzig’s rising star Yan Diomande, following a significant setback in its pursuit of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. The Gunners were taken aback when Chelsea swooped in to secure Rogers through a record-breaking deal.
With Mikel Arteta keen to revamp his attacking options, Arsenal has reportedly entered the race for the 19-year-old Diomande, who has garnered attention for his impressive performances in the Bundesliga. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his YouTube channel that the north London club has made an initial inquiry regarding the young Ivorian international, an exciting prospect in European football.
However, acquiring Diomande won’t be without its challenges, given that Leipzig is reportedly asking for around €120 million (£102m) to part with their talented winger. Romano provided insight into Arsenal’s current actions, stating: “Arsenal, over the last few days, made some checks with the agents of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig to understand if there was still a chance to enter the deal.”
Initially, Rogers emerged as Arsenal’s primary target, with the club prioritizing the 23-year-old for this transfer window. However, with Chelsea’s surprising agreement on a staggering £117 million deal for Rogers, Arsenal’s plans have been thrown into disarray.
Romano reflected on the unexpected outcome of the Rogers pursuit: “We have to be very attentive to Arsenal now because losing Morgan Rogers is a big blow, it’s the reality, he’s the player they wanted, their number-one target and so they were pushing to get the deal done. Big surprise he goes to Chelsea, there will be consequences in the market, for Arsenal, for sure, it’s a big shock they didn’t expect this to happen.”
As hopes for Diomande rise, Arsenal faces stiff competition, with both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain keenly tracking the talented winger. PSG appears to hold an advantage in the race as they are already in negotiations with Leipzig.
Romano elaborated on PSG’s position: “But don’t forget, Diomande has an agreement for personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain, and Paris Saint-Germain are in negotiations with Leipzig. But Arsenal made some calls to understand the situation of Diomande.”
While the club’s focus intensifies on Diomande, the summer transfer window has Arsenal exploring other high-profile names as well. They are keeping a watchful eye on the situation surrounding Julian Alvarez and Atletico Madrid, a scenario made more complicated by interest from Barcelona.
Romano commented on the tense situation: “Then another thing, it’s a separate story but Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation of Julian Alvarez and Barcelona. It’s very tense between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, obviously if Julian Alvarez can’t go to Barcelona because Atletico don’t want to sell the player to Barcelona.”
In what seems to be a rapidly evolving summer transfer market, Arsenal is now seeking to adapt and explore new avenues as they navigate this challenging landscape.
