Andrew Wiggins Signs New 3-Year Contract with Miami Heat

Andrew Wiggins has officially signed a new three-year contract with the Miami Heat, valued at $64 million. This deal, confirmed by a team source, allows Wiggins to lower his annual salary in exchange for a longer tenure with the team, extending his contract through the 2028-29 season.

The 31-year-old player was previously expected to earn $30.1 million next season if he opted to activate his player option. However, both parties have come to an agreement that adds $34 million in the final two years of his contract, distributing the total amount over three seasons. This arrangement provides much-needed flexibility for the Heat as they work to finalize their roster for the upcoming season after their recent trade for superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Wiggins, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, had an average of 15.4 points per game last season, with a shooting percentage of 41.4 from beyond the arc. The Heat originally acquired him from the Golden State Warriors as part of the deal that sent All-Star Jimmy Butler to the Warriors in 2024. With the recent changes, Wiggins is positioned to take on a significant role within the team’s frontcourt, likely starting alongside Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

The Heat have been active in reshaping their lineup and are currently working under hard salary cap constraints at the first apron level. This new contract for Wiggins gives the team approximately $10 million in extra salary cap space, crucial for filling up to five remaining roster spots. The front office is particularly focused on enhancing perimeter shooting after parting ways with Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kasparas Jakučionis as part of the trade with Milwaukee.
