Yung Filly to Face Retrial on Rape Charges in Australia

Yung Filly will undergo a retrial in Australia on three rape charges after a jury reached no verdict on them and acquitted him of others.

British rapper Yung Filly, known as Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, is set to face a retrial on three rape charges in Australia. This follows a jury’s recent decision to clear him of several sexual assault offenses, with the jury unable to reach a verdict on the remaining charges.

The allegations against Barrientos stem from an incident in 2024 after he performed at a nightclub in Perth, where he was accused of repeatedly raping a fan. He has firmly denied all ten charges brought against him. While the jury acquitted him of three rape counts, he was found not guilty on one assault charge and one charge of strangulation but guilty of two counts of assault. His sentencing for these offenses awaits the outcome of the retrial.

During the trial, which took place in a West Australian court, it was reported that Barrientos had consensual sex with the then-20-year-old fan in his hotel room. However, she accused him of turning violent and ignoring her pleas to stop. Barrientos’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 27, where he will address an application to vary his bail conditions. A specific date for the retrial has yet to be determined.

The prosecution indicated that the complainant is willing to testify once more. Throughout the proceedings, Barrientos shared that he felt attracted to the woman when they met at the concert venue, describing the atmosphere as comfortable and friendly when they arrived at his hotel.

In closing arguments, prosecutor Danielle Clarke characterized Barrientos as an ‘entitled’ individual with a ‘moderate degree of fame’ who had violated the fan. In contrast, his defense attorney challenged the credibility of the accuser’s testimony, claiming it was rife with inconsistencies and exaggerations.

Born in Colombia and raised in the UK, Barrientos has gained popularity as a member of the YouTube collective Beta Squad. He has also participated in the celebrity version of the Great British Bake Off and hosted various shows for BBC Three.
