Trump Calls for World Cup to Return to U.S. Immediately

President Trump insists on bringing the World Cup back to the U.S. following the success of the 2026 tournament, addressing FIFA’s Gianni Infantino.

President Donald Trump has made a strong request for the World Cup to return to the United States as soon as possible, expressing his enthusiasm during an interview with U.S. host broadcaster Fox ahead of the final match this Sunday. Trump praised the success of the 2026 tournament held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, noting, “After what I believe has been a ‘beautiful’ tournament, I think we are a ‘soccer country’ and want to see the competition back on our soil.”

Attending the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Trump mentioned his engagement with FIFA President Gianni Infantino regarding the tournament. His influence was noted during the event, particularly regarding the overturned one-game ban for U.S. Men’s National Team striker Folarin Balogun, which was directly linked to Trump’s intervention.

Looking ahead to future tournaments, the next World Cup is scheduled for 2030 in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with the opening matches set to take place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the competition. However, Trump remains keen on the idea of the U.S. hosting again and conveyed thoughts to Infantino about the next allocations, stating, “We will be requesting it again immediately. I had a great idea for Gianni; you should announce us again next time along with another country, to take out some of the shock.” Trump emphasized the need for the tournament to return to the U.S. while he is still alive.

The upcoming 2034 World Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia, making 2038 the next unassigned year when Trump will be 92. Despite this, he remains optimistic about the possibility, commenting on the overwhelming success of the recent tournament. “I think I saw 99.9 percent [attendance], and I believe it was probably more than that. I really give Gianni the credit for making it all work out so beautifully,” Trump added.

As the championship match approaches, Trump’s attention turns to the competitors. Argentina will aim to defend its title against Spain. Reflecting on the match, Trump said, “I would say that it’s hard to bet against Lionel Messi,” attributing the Argentine forward’s exceptional talent to the team’s strength. He recounted Messi’s impressive assist during the semifinal match against England and noted the challenge defenders faced against such skillful play.
