Suspect Identified in Monaco Bombing Incident

A Ukrainian woman has been identified as the main suspect in a parcel bombing incident that occurred in Monaco. According to the deputy prosecutor of the city-state, Anastasiia Berezovska, 39, was disguised as a man during the attack.

The alleged bombing took place when a package was left in the entrance of an apartment building. The explosion occurred shortly after the package was deposited, with three residents — including a sanctioned Ukrainian multi-millionaire, his partner, and their 13-year-old son — suffering serious injuries.

An Interpol Red Notice for Berezovska has been issued, as she is wanted for attempted murder and other charges related to the incident. Reports indicate that she fled the scene on foot and subsequently drove to Germany.

Witnesses noted that the explosion happened just as the victims were entering their building. Monaco’s deputy prosecutor, Morgan Raymond, mentioned that investigators are exploring the possibility of accomplices as the search for Berezovska continues.

Although the identity of the victims has not been officially confirmed by authorities in Monaco, local reports suggest that Vadym Yermolaiev, 58, a wealthy real estate developer residing in Monaco, is the presumed target of the attack. He has lived in Monaco since renouncing his Ukrainian citizenship in 2019.

The device that caused the explosion reportedly contained bolts and pellets, indicating a deliberate intention to inflict harm. Monaco’s public prosecutor, Stephane Thibault, commended the collaboration between police forces in Monaco and France, which facilitated the rapid identification of the suspect.

Meanwhile, German police confirmed that special forces had conducted a search of a rented apartment occupied by a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman in Hesse. The authorities also examined a vehicle linked to her. They secured evidence that will be shared with Monegasque authorities as part of the investigation.

Prince Albert II of Monaco described the event as a “heinous crime.” The victims were treated at local hospitals, with the adults suffering serious injuries and the child in a non-critical condition.

As of Wednesday, reports indicated that the woman who was injured had not yet stabilized, while the man was no longer considered to be in danger of death.
