Mohamed Salah is set to join Trabzonspor after leaving Liverpool, with contract talks underway and medical checks scheduled in Istanbul.
Mohamed Salah is scheduled to arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday to advance discussions regarding a potential transfer to Trabzonspor. The club announced that negotiations have commenced with the former Liverpool star, who is now a free agent following his departure from the Premier League side after the conclusion of last season.
The announcement from Trabzonspor on Tuesday confirmed that Salah is expected to land in Trabzon on Wednesday evening, where he will undergo medical evaluations before proceeding to sign with the Turkish Super Lig club. Trabzonspor Chairman Ertugrul Dogan acknowledged that while the deal is not yet finalized, everything points toward securing Salah’s signature shortly, with expectations set for a formal agreement to be reached by Thursday.
Salah, who turned 34 this summer, spent nine successful years at Liverpool, winning two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League. He holds the impressive record of being the club’s third all-time leading scorer, with 257 goals across 442 appearances. This achievement places him behind legends Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
Last season, Salah played a pivotal role as the Premier League’s top scorer and creator, netting 29 goals and providing 18 assists, which significantly contributed to Liverpool’s title win. However, his form tapered off in the subsequent season, scoring just seven goals in 27 league appearances as Liverpool struggled collectively.
In 2024, Salah played for Egypt in the World Cup, helping the national team reach the round of 16. However, their campaign ended dramatically with a controversial match against Argentina, resulting in a 3-2 defeat. The Egyptian Football Association later expressed its serious concerns regarding the officiating decisions made during that match, particularly regarding a disallowed goal and a missed penalty.
Previously, Salah extended his contract with Liverpool in April 2025, securing a deal worth over £400,000 ($534,000) per week. However, this agreement was cut short a year early to facilitate his exit from Anfield, leading to his current negotiation with Trabzonspor. Salah had also attracted interest from other clubs, including Saudi side Al Ittihad, but it was made clear he was not available for transfer at that time.
Trabzonspor, having finished third in the Super Lig last season, boasts a competitive squad that includes notable players like Andre Onana and Paul Onuachu, making them an attractive destination as Salah embarks on this new chapter of his career.
