Rodri has officially signed with Barcelona until 2030, revealing his preference over Real Madrid during a press conference after departing Manchester City.
Rodrigo Hernández, commonly known as Rodri, has officially been introduced as the newest player for FC Barcelona, signing a contract that extends until 2030. The Spanish midfielder transitioned from Manchester City, joining after an impressive spell where he secured 13 titles. At a press conference following the announcement, Rodri shared insights into his decision to join the Catalan club, emphasizing that despite receiving a significant offer from rivals Real Madrid, his top priority was always Barcelona.
Upon his arrival in Barcelona, Rodri swiftly completed all medical examinations before finalizing his contract. The excitement surrounding his transfer is palpable, particularly because he is the reigning Ballon d’Or award winner. During his presentation, he expressed his joy in making this move, citing the lengthy negotiations that preceded it. “I would like to say that I am very happy to be here. It is a special day, an important new chapter in my career. It was a hard decision,” he said, reflecting on leaving Manchester City, where he felt appreciated and fulfilled.
Rodri noted that Barcelona has long been a benchmark for him, both for their football philosophy and the values they represent. “I had another proposal, but Barca were the first option and I told the board that,” he explained, revealing the intensity of interest surrounding him from various top European clubs.
In addition to discussing his career shift, Rodri addressed his physical health following recent back surgery. He reassured fans that the procedure was relatively minor and that he is physically prepared to make his immediate debut. Rodri expressed enthusiasm about working alongside young talents at Barcelona, particularly the notable progress of Lamine Yamal, praising the teenager’s remarkable performances.
Furthermore, Rodri engaged in discussions with new manager Hansi Flick, expressing admiration for Flick’s bold tactical approaches. He is keen to share his extensive experience with the youthful squad, with aspirations of propelling the team toward success in both La Liga and European competitions.
As preparations ramp up for the upcoming season, Rodri is set to train with his new teammates tomorrow. He is expected to appear at the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy match against Egyptian side Al Ahly, where he will be officially presented to the home supporters at Spotify Camp Nou, as the club gears up for a promising domestic campaign ahead.
