RB Leipzig Denies PSG Bid for Yan Diomande

RB Leipzig’s Marcel Schafer insists Yan Diomande will remain with the club this summer, despite PSG interest. Diomande is not for sale.

RB Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schafer has firmly stated that Yan Diomande will not be joining Paris Saint-Germain this summer, countering widespread speculation linking the young talent to the Ligue 1 champions. The Bundesliga club is resolute in their decision to keep the 19-year-old forward for at least another season.

Diomande has attracted significant interest from PSG, but Schafer has made it clear that the Ivorian international is an integral part of their plans, saying, “Yan Diomande plays for RB Leipzig next year. And we are not budging from that.” While he acknowledged that Diomande will eventually move to a bigger club, he reiterated that such a move is not imminent. “The time will come when we allow Diomande to take the next step. But not this year,” he insisted.

The rising star’s reputation has soared since he joined Leipzig from Leganes for €20 million a year ago. His standout performances have reportedly led Leipzig to reject a staggering €100 million bid from Liverpool earlier in the transfer window. According to Schafer, the club currently does not have a “financial pain threshold” regarding Diomande’s departure, emphasizing their commitment to retaining him.

Instead of seeking an exit, Leipzig is thought to be working on extending Diomande’s contract, which is set to run until 2030. The aim is to offer him enhanced terms that reflect his status as one of Europe’s most promising young players, as well as to fend off interest from other clubs.

This assertion from Leipzig comes amid reports from Footmercato suggesting that Diomande has reached a personal agreement with PSG. While discussions between the French side and the German club have been claimed, Leipzig remains unfazed by the mounting pressure to sell.

Earlier this year, Oliver Mintzlaff, the chairman of Leipzig’s supervisory board, indicated that he would not support the sale of Diomande. He remarked, “If I were the sporting director, I would not sell this young player, who has not even been with us for a full season, no matter what price is called.” However, he did leave the door open for a potential transfer if a creative solution is suggested, hinting at a strategy previously utilized when Naby Keita was sold to Liverpool in 2017, which allowed him to remain on loan at Leipzig for a year.

Since arriving in the Bundesliga, Diomande has quickly transitioned from an unknown talent to a key player. His impressive performance statistics reveal that he has scored 12 goals and provided eight assists this season—outpacing all Leipzig players except Christoph Baumgartner. Diomande’s ability to win 55 percent of his duels showcases not only his technical ability but also his physical capabilities.

When asked about his future at Leipzig a month ago, Diomande confirmed, “Yes,” adding, “I’m not thinking about that at the moment. I’m under contract in Leipzig and I enjoy playing here. But nobody knows what will happen after that. Everyone has ambitions, including me. My dream is to play at the highest level possible.”
