Monaco Parcel Bomb Suspect Found Dead in Ukraine

The suspect in a parcel bombing incident in Monaco, which left a sanctioned Ukrainian millionaire and his family injured, has been found dead, according to Ukraine’s security service (SBU). Anastasiia Berezovska, a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman, was the target of a cross-border manhunt after she allegedly carried out the bombing at an apartment building on June 29.

Berezovska’s body was discovered with gunshot wounds to the head. Following the bombing, authorities in Ukraine launched an intensive search for her, believing she had fled from Monaco. Reports indicate that she returned to Ukraine on July 1, just two days after the attack, where she maintained contact with family and associates.

During the investigation, two men were taken into custody, one being a current officer from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence (MoD), both now facing murder charges. Evidence reportedly linked them to financial transactions with Berezovska, suggesting their involvement in the Monaco attack.

The MoD officer has confessed to being part of Berezovska’s murder alongside another accomplice. Furthermore, a search of the home of the former law enforcement officer uncovered a basement room that was described as resembling a torture chamber. Details surrounding the violent nature of her death indicate that the situation is highly complex.

As the investigation proceeds, it was revealed that Berezovska had meticulously planned the attack, reportedly watching the residence for several days before the bombing. During the explosion, three individuals were injured, two of them seriously, when a package detonated upon their entry into the building shortly after 21:00 local time.

Berezovska was thought to have fled Monaco in a hire car, making her way to Italy and then to Germany. Special forces in Germany conducted searches on an apartment linked to a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman also wanted in connection with the events. Interpol has issued a red notice, describing Berezovska as a fugitive wanted for attempted murder, among other charges.

The incident in Monaco has raised serious concerns among law enforcement regarding potential accomplices, as investigations continue to expand. Authorities have yet to officially acknowledge the victims’ identities, though media sources have indicated that Vadym Yermolaiev, a Ukrainian real estate developer, and his family are the presumed targets. Yermolaiev, noted by Forbes magazine to be among Ukraine’s wealthiest individuals, has sizable business operations linked to Crimea, which is controversially annexed by Russia.

The ongoing investigation, supported by the head of the intelligence directorate Oleg Ivashchenko, seeks to identify any further individuals connected to this grave act of violence.
