Monaco forward Maghnes Akliouche is set to join PSG after interest from Liverpool, with praise for his pressing and creativity.

Monaco forward Maghnes Akliouche, who was previously linked with a move to Liverpool, is now poised to join Paris Saint-Germain. This transfer marks a significant step in his career, where his unique blend of pressing and creativity has drawn attention from top clubs.

Akliouche, a 24-year-old France international, has been recognized for his remarkable work rate. Monaco’s coach, Sebastien Pocognoli, highlighted this aspect back in March, noting, “If you have a player like that who puts in so much defensive effort—not just tracking back but also pushing forward since he is the one who wins back the most balls high up the pitch in Ligue 1—it means he is an atypical and modern player.” This description reflects what makes Akliouche stand out amid a market filled with talented wingers.

His skill set is impressive, featuring a highlights reel that rivals those of some of football’s best talents. From an incredible overhead kick against Rennes to a variety of finishes, including goals struck with his weaker right foot, Akliouche has demonstrated a diverse attacking repertoire. Five out of his 18 Ligue 1 goals have come from his right foot, showcasing not only his power but also his precision.

Abel Lorincz, Monaco’s technical coach last season, weighed in on Akliouche’s pressing abilities, stating, “He is a really good pressing player. He really shined in Adi’s system. High energy, high pressing, lots of intensive actions.” Ending the season ranked third for possessions won in the final third indicates his effectiveness in play, a quality that made him an attractive prospect for teams like Liverpool.

Beyond mere hustle, Akliouche is noted for his composure and game intelligence. Lorincz elaborated, saying, “He has amazing technical ability but he also has really high game intelligence.” Akliouche can adapt and even teach solutions during games, illustrating his growth as a player.

Having been a part of the national setup and making an appearance during the World Cup, he is viewed as ready for the next stage of his career. Lorincz stated, “One hundred percent. He is a really big talent,” indicating the high expectations surrounding him.

His ability to absorb coaching and follow strategies, especially during set-pieces, further enhances his appeal. Lorincz detailed his role in those situations, emphasizing that Akliouche’s agility allowed him to successfully engage bigger opponents, a testament to his tactical awareness.

As he makes the move to PSG, Akliouche will be under the guidance of renowned coach Luis Enrique, known for his extensive success in the Champions League. This transfer not only benefits Akliouche but also provides an opportunity for PSG, who have firsthand experience of his capabilities after he scored in consecutive matches against them earlier this year.

With this transition, the football world will be keenly watching how Akliouche adapts to his new environment and the challenges ahead.
