Hit-Boy and Nas Split After Three-Year Collaboration

Hit-Boy reveals he hasn’t spoken to Nas in three years and doesn’t expect future collaborations after their successful partnership.

Hit-Boy has announced that his productive collaboration with Nas has come to an end, sharing that they haven’t spoken in three years. During a recent interview on VladTV with DJ Vlad and Elliott Wilson, Hit-Boy discussed the current state of their relationship following six collaborative projects released over a span of just three years.

“I ain’t spoke to Nas in three years; we did 80 songs in 3 years, and I produced almost every single song,” Hit-Boy revealed. From 2020 through 2023, Hit-Boy was instrumental to Nas’ career during a notably busy period. Their partnership began with the album “King’s Disease” in 2020, which evolved into two trilogies.

The success continued with “King’s Disease II” and “Magic” both released in 2021, and “King’s Disease III” followed in 2022. They finished this productive run with the albums “Magic 2” and “Magic 3,” which dropped in quick succession in 2023.

This collaboration was pivotal in helping Nas achieve a career milestone, as “King’s Disease” earned him the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2021—his first Grammy win after years of nominations.

Despite the memorable achievements together, Hit-Boy expressed doubts about future collaborations with Nas, stating, “We did a lot of great work, but I don’t see us working again.” He did not elaborate on what caused the decline in their relationship but hinted that there are deeper issues not ready for public discussion. “There’s a lot of reasons, you know what I mean? But it’s something I don’t really wanna dig too deep in because it’s pretty deep. Respect to what we did get accomplished in three years.”

This change in tone reflects a contrast to the optimistic sentiment both artists shared after releasing “Magic 3”. During that time, Hit-Boy suggested that he was open to future collaborations, stating he was, “right here whenever forever bro,” while Nas hinted that their six-album streak could potentially continue, expressing, “We can definitely go for more albums, easily.”

Looking back at their partnership, Nas also mentioned how surprising it was to have created such an extensive body of work, saying, “To complete something beyond what you thought you were even working on, we didn’t know we’d do six albums. It’s satisfying, it’s gratifying, it’s a feeling of accomplishment on another level for myself as an MC.” However, three years later, it seems Hit-Boy views their collaboration as a concluded chapter.
