Newcastle legend Chris Waddle believes Marcus Rashford may have lost interest in the Premier League as speculation around his future grows.
Chris Waddle Questions Rashford’s Love for Premier League

In recent discussions surrounding the future of Marcus Rashford, Newcastle United legend Chris Waddle has shared his thoughts on whether the Manchester United forward still holds affection for the Premier League. With Anthony Gordon’s impending move to Barcelona, many see Rashford as a potential replacement, but Waddle isn’t convinced.
“I’m not sure if Marcus Rashford actually loves the Premier League,” Waddle commented. Having enjoyed a stellar run at Manchester United, where he netted 30 goals in a standout 2023 season, Rashford’s trajectory appears to have shifted. Following his contract renewal, rumors circulated about a loan move to Aston Villa in February 2025, before Barcelona welcomed him to their ranks.
During his time at Camp Nou, Rashford contributed to the team’s success, scoring 14 goals across all competitions. However, Waddle pointed out that the Englishman’s status in Spain isn’t as stable as one might think. “Raphinha tends to get the shirt if he’s fit during crucial matches, and Rashford has often found himself in a secondary role,” he noted, raising concerns about whether a hefty price tag of £35 to £40 million is justifiable for a player who might not start every week.
“He’s got the talent, but it’s been evident that his body language isn’t what it used to be. He had a remarkable season at United before landing a big contract, yet something seems amiss. It makes one wonder if it’s a mental hurdle he’s facing,” Waddle expressed.

When asked if transferring to Newcastle might ignite Rashford’s passion for football again, Waddle mused, “It might feel too similar to his situation at Manchester United. A change of environment looks necessary for him—a chance to reset—perhaps in Spain, Italy, or even France, rather than returning to Tyneside.”
Rashford’s current contract with Manchester United has two years remaining, suggesting he needs to secure a move soon if he aims to establish a lasting connection with a club. The upcoming 2026 World Cup offers him a platform to put his skills on display, with a good performance likely to enhance his transfer appeal. Many experts anticipate that he would be chosen over Gordon for England’s opener against Croatia on June 17.
