Barcelona is in talks to sign Tottenham’s Pedro Porro as a potential replacement for Arsenal target Jules Kounde.
Barcelona has made an initial approach to secure the signing of Tottenham Hotspur right-back Pedro Porro as they prepare for potential changes in their defensive lineup. The Catalan club is actively gauging interest as Arsenal shows considerable eagerness to recruit their player, Jules Kounde.
According to reports emerging from Spain, Barcelona’s formal approach to Spurs regarding Porro comes in light of Kounde’s uncertain future. The defender, a World Cup winner, has captivated the interest of many clubs, including Arsenal, whose manager Mikel Arteta is keen on securing his services before the summer transfer window closes.
Spanish journalist Gerard Romero has confirmed that Barcelona has made contact with Porro’s entourage in recent days. “Contact has been made in recent days with Pedro Porro, with the full-back’s entourage,” Romero shared. He added that although Porro is one of Tottenham’s highest-paid players and recently renewed his contract, Barcelona is exploring options in case Kounde departs. “Kounde has many offers from the Premier League. So far, the player hasn’t shown any signs of wanting to leave, but it’s a case that’s half open, so anything can happen,” he noted.
Acquiring Porro’s signature will not be an easy task for Barcelona. The 26-year-old defender only recently extended his contract with Spurs in June, tying him to the club until 2031. Tottenham’s head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, highly regards Porro, viewing him as an integral part of his tactical framework.
“Pedro is a very important player for us, who has consistently shown his ability to influence matches in both defensive and attacking situations,” De Zerbi stated following Porro’s contract renewal. “As well as his technical quality, I also love his mentality. Every day he wants to work, to learn and to improve, and these are the characteristics that help players reach the highest level.”
The pressing question now for Barcelona is whether to wait for Arsenal to make a decisive move for Kounde. Should the French defender ultimately decide to join the London club, Barcelona will be compelled to swiftly assess Tottenham’s stance regarding Porro.
