Dolly Parton, legendary country music star and actress, has passed away at 80. Her legacy in music and film leaves an enduring impact.
Renowned singer-songwriter and actress Dolly Parton, widely regarded as the queen of country music, passed away on Tuesday in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 80. Parton’s representatives announced that she succumbed to cancer after a brief battle.
The news was confirmed through a heartfelt video shared on her official Instagram account by nephew Bryan Seaver, representing the Parton family.
The family’s statement beautifully captured her essence: “A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.”

In mid-August, Parton had revealed that she would be unable to attend an event at Dollywood due to dehydration and dizziness, with her doctor advising against traveling. Concerns around her health were further highlighted in the fall of 2025, when she announced the postponement of a six-show residency at Las Vegas’s Caesars Palace, citing necessary medical procedures.
She also missed the Motion Picture Academy’s Governors Awards in November 2025, at which she was set to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, due to health concerns.
Parton had been actively involved in projects like the musical “Dolly: An Original Musical,” which premiered at Belmont University in Nashville in the summer of 2025. Additionally, she participated in “Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony,” a concert series featuring her songs accompanied by local symphonies.
In 2022, she made headlines during her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after initially declining the nomination, only to embrace the honor under public pressure. In 2023, she released her last album titled “Rockstar,” featuring collaborations with various artists, symbolizing her cross-genre appeal.
Parton had a remarkable career, with numerous hits, including the iconic “I Will Always Love You,” which resonated through different generations. Originally written in 1974, it reached No. 1 on the country charts multiple times and gained international acclaim, particularly through Whitney Houston’s rendition from “The Bodyguard” soundtrack.
Her influence extended beyond music, with significant contributions to film and television, highlighted by hit movies such as “9 to 5,” for which she garnered a Golden Globe nomination.
Throughout her life, Parton maintained a strong philanthropic presence, especially through her work in literacy and health awareness, reflected in initiatives like the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
Born on January 19, 1946, to a farming family, Parton rose from humble beginnings to become a cultural icon, known for her distinctive style, unforgettable music, and genuine spirit. Her legacy continues to live on in her extensive discography and the hearts of her fans around the world.
