Mikel Arteta hails Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield, praising his team’s competitive spirit and new signing.

Mikel Arteta expressed his delight following Arsenal’s impressive 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley. The Gunners manager praised his team’s relentless desire and competitive spirit after they outclassed the reigning Premier League champions.

Arteta was full of admiration for his players, who secured the first silverware of the season with a commanding display against their title rivals. Goals from Riccardo Calafiori, Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard sealed the win, marking the largest margin of victory in a Community Shield final since 2014. The result left City manager Enzo Maresca with numerous questions as his team gears up for the upcoming campaign.

Post-match, Arteta highlighted the performance’s significance, stating, “I am extremely happy with the performance and with the win. We talked about the desire that we have to start the season and to show ourselves how much we want it, and I saw a lot of positive things there against a top opponent.” He continued, emphasizing the importance of pre-season preparation and the players’ commitment after the World Cup. “I was very impressed with the manner that we played and the manner that we competed, so that’s the standard for us. I’m sure that we’re going to be really, really competitive.”

A standout performer for Arsenal was summer signing Christos Tzolis, who played a crucial role in dismantling the City defense. The winger not only assisted both the second and third goals but also showcased his ability with direct runs and keen tactical awareness in the attacking third.

Arteta acknowledged Tzolis’s effect on the match, saying, “He has a massive quality, which is that when he’s in the last 20 or 30 meters he’s so composed in and around the box with his decisive actions, and he’s shown that again today.”

The manager also responded to Mikel Merino’s recent comments that Arsenal possesses the best midfield in the world. While modest, he asserted, “It’s the best midfield for Arsenal, that’s for sure, and we need everyone to complement their qualities to the player next to them.”

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, absences were notable from the matchday squad, including Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and rising star Ethan Nwaneri. Arteta clarified that these omissions were due to current squad regulations, not injuries. He expressed disappointment over the limitations, saying, “It’s really sad not to have their availability. I’ve been fighting with the Premier League to extend and accommodate more players in the squad because they deserve to be in the squad, there’s no question. Hopefully, we can change that rule so players can enjoy on the pitch and contribute to the team going forward.”

While questions arose regarding whether the Gunners could maintain their hunger following a successful season, Arteta reassured fans that the squad is more motivated than ever. “I want to live that moment again. I want to live it even bigger; we know what it will take and that it will demand something special, but we are ready for it,” he said, leaving Arsenal supporters optimistic about the season ahead.
