Enzo Maresca confirms Manchester City will pursue more signings, including Ayyoub Bouaddi amid transfer discussions before the deadline.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has officially confirmed that the club will remain active in the transfer market ahead of the window’s closure. This announcement comes following a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Arsenal in the Community Shield, where Maresca addressed ongoing negotiations for Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi as well as the notable absence of Rodri, who is linked with a potential move to Barcelona.
The Premier League champions are preparing for significant squad changes before the transfer window closes on August 31. Maresca expressed commitment to strengthening the team and stated, “We knew already before the game the things that we need to do. It is not because we lost the game. We are quite clear. For sure, we are going to do something before the transfer window closes.”
Currently, Manchester City is in advanced talks to acquire Bouaddi from Lille. Reports indicate the discussions may lead to a deal worth around €80 million, a significant drop from Lille’s initial demand of €100 million. Personal terms have reportedly been agreed upon, with Bouaddi eager to finalize the move quickly. On the situation, Maresca noted, “He is still a Lille player. But any new signing as soon as they arrive, it’s better [for us], because we have the Premier League starting in one week.”
As the club looks to bolster its midfield with Bouaddi, they also brace for potential high-profile departures. Rodri’s omission from the Community Shield squad has heightened speculation regarding his transfer to Barcelona. Despite the club’s rejections of multiple bids for Rodri, who has just one year left on his contract, rumors of his exit continue to swirl.
Additionally, Tijjani Reijnders may soon head to Saudi Arabian side Al Qadsiah. Addressing Rodri’s absence, Maresca acknowledged his value, saying, “Rodri is a player that just won the World Cup, the Ballon d’Or – a top player that all teams need a player like. It’s not about if we miss Rodri or not.”
Looking ahead, Manchester City needs to finalize their transfer plans promptly before the Premier League campaign kicks off. The focus will be on completing the Bouaddi deal, as Maresca aims to secure the midfield reinforcements necessary for the upcoming season. Furthermore, the departures of Rodri and Reijnders will require the team to adapt strategically as they enter a demanding season ahead.
