Berkshire Hathaway raises its Alphabet stake, making it one of its biggest investments alongside Delta Air Lines and homebuilders.
Berkshire Hathaway has made a significant move by increasing its stake in Alphabet, positioning the company among its three largest stock holdings as of the second quarter. This adjustment also includes a heightened investment in Delta Air Lines and several homebuilders.
The increase in Alphabet holdings is part of a broader strategy following a $10 billion private stock purchase announced in early June. Alphabet aimed to secure fresh capital for an extensive AI infrastructure development.
Warren Buffett, the chairman of Berkshire, indicated enthusiasm about this investment strategy, with support from Vice Chairman Greg Abel. He was responsible for initiating Berkshire Hathaway’s investment in Alphabet and expressed optimism about the company’s future during recent discussions.
This latest decision by Berkshire marks a notable shift after a long period of net stock sales. The conglomerate transitioned into a net buyer during the latest quarter, recording nearly $20 billion in net purchases. This change follows a streak of 14 consecutive quarters where Berkshire had sold off more shares than it bought.
Berkshire’s transformation from a net seller to a buyer of equities illustrates significant confidence in the market, especially towards such a pivotal tech entity as Alphabet.
