Intel reveals a $15 billion stock offering to meet rising AI demand and expand its infrastructure in the rapidly growing technology sector.
Intel has announced a $15 billion common stock offering to meet the surging demand for artificial intelligence (AI) computing power. This move aims to bolster the chipmaker’s corporate needs, focusing on capital expenditures and working capital to support the increasingly competitive AI landscape.
The company emphasized its commitment to physical AI, purpose-built silicon, and advanced packaging as key growth opportunities. The funding comes at a time when major tech firms are investing heavily in AI infrastructure, with expenditures expected to reach $765 billion this year alone, and forecasted to rise to $1.2 trillion by 2027, according to estimates from Goldman Sachs.
During its last earnings season, various leading technology companies reported significant increases in capital spending due to heightened AI demand. Notably, Amazon indicated the highest guidance among its peers, largely due to a memory crunch affecting operations.
In July, Intel reported its fastest revenue growth in nearly 15 years, prompting the company to raise its capital expenditures guidance to $20 billion. Finance chief David Zinsner remarked that most of the additional funding would be channeled into factory tooling, indicating a preparation for what he described as a “meaningful increase” in demand expected in 2027.
The stock offering also includes a 30-day option for underwriters to purchase an additional $2.25 billion in common stock, further enhancing Intel’s capability to adapt to the dynamic technological landscape.
