Tottenham is keen on signing Cody Gakpo from Liverpool this summer, aiming to enhance their attacking lineup. Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has expressed his desire to bring in at least one wide attacker after significantly upgrading the midfield and defense during the transfer window.

With four years remaining on his contract, Gakpo will not come at a bargain price for Liverpool, who are unwilling to let him go without securing a replacement first. Reports indicate that Liverpool is expected to make a formal approach to Paris Saint-Germain regarding their French winger, Bradley Barcola, valued at £145 million, complicating their plans.

As Gakpo ranks among the more seasoned forwards on the pitch, he is also capable of providing much-needed striker support while teammate Hugo Ekitike recovers from an Achilles injury. Should a deal for Gakpo take place and Barcola successfully joins Liverpool, the club would face dwindling options on the wing, particularly with Rio Ngumoha and new signing Victor Munoz available as the remaining options.

On Tottenham’s end, discussions have also centered around a potential deal for Savinho from Manchester City, although no formal bid has been submitted yet. Saved to be another sizeable investment, Savinho signed a new contract last summer, and City would necessitate assurances of a replacement to consider letting him go.

De Zerbi has signaled that Tottenham intends to make another ‘bomba’ signing. The club has already spent a staggering £237 million this summer, acquiring Sandro Tonali for a record £100 million and adding Mateus Fernandes for an additional £85 million.

Speaking to the media, De Zerbi conveyed confidence regarding the ongoing transfer process, stating, “The transfer market, it’s not finished for sure, but we completed 60 percent of our project in the transfer market. Now we have another bomba!” When probed about the timeline for the new addition, he remarked, “I hope, but it’s not finished for sure.”

Further, De Zerbi hinted at the possibility of two or three more signings, stating, “I think two, maybe three. We have to see.” Acknowledging the necessity of optimizing the squad, he said, “I think we have some other players to complete the squad, and the players will be here in the next few days; for me, they are top players. I don’t know if the expectations are bigger than two days ago, but we must go forward and think of the good of the team, of the club, of the squad.”

On another note, interest from Atlético Madrid and Inter Milan in Tottenham’s captain, Cristian Romero, adds another layer of complexity to the transfer window. De Zerbi revealed that he has been in touch with Romero and is open to discussing his future following the player’s post-World Cup break. It seems that Romero’s potential departure could unfold this summer, just one year after being named captain and signing a new contract.

As the dust settles on the summer transfer window, De Zerbi remains focused on solidifying his squad as negotiations continue toward potential new arrivals and maintaining key players.
