Kicking off the summer with an explosion of reality TV excitement, “Love Island USA” has become a focal point for not just its audience but also for betting markets. As fans indulge in the show, airing six nights a week on Peacock, they’re also greeted with a slew of advertisements for the prediction market Kalshi on platforms like TikTok.

This campaign is notable for its direction towards predominantly female fans, tapping into the show’s substantial following. Kalshi has launched this targeted marketing strategy exclusively this summer, featuring markets related to the show. Early reports suggest this strategy is paying off significantly.

According to a report from Barron’s, which cites an Apptopia analysis, the number of female weekly active mobile users on Kalshi skyrocketed by 106% from June 8 to June 28, while male user growth stood at 54%. This marked increase coincides with the introduction of new prediction markets for “Love Island,” allowing users to wager on outcomes directly tied to the show.

Elisabeth Diana, a spokesperson for Kalshi, mentions the World Cup as a contributing factor to the influx of female users but emphasizes that the new betting options for “Love Island” have been pivotal in attracting this audience. The market isn’t officially linked to Peacock or “Love Island,” making the connection purely commercial.

Many TikTok ads showcase enthusiastic users claiming to have won easy money via bets on Kalshi. One ad featured a group of women celebrating, captioned: “how our Tuesday nights look ever since we started making money every time Kayda and Zach stay safe.” This reflects the intimacy and connection fans feel toward the contestants.

However, the ads have sparked mixed reactions on TikTok, with some female users expressing skepticism about prediction markets. Comments reflect a growing concern among viewers, with one user stating, “So they got the men to bet on sports. Now there’s ‘Love Island’ betting constantly on my For You Page? That’s a recession indicator.” The criticism hints at a broader cultural dialogue about the relationship between betting and entertainment.

Extra challenges loom for betting on a show like “Love Island,” especially due to the filming schedule. A potential issue arises from the fact that there is a 24- to 48-hour lag between filming and the airing of episodes. This situation opens the door for those involved in the production—like cast and crew—to have advance knowledge of outcomes, potentially undermining the integrity of betting markets.

As it stands, current odds on Kalshi show a strong preference for Trinity and Bryce as probable winners of this season’s contest, building suspense as the finale approaches on July 12. The market is currently valued at just under $10 million, representing the growing intersection of reality TV enthusiasm and betting engagement.
