Gardaí arrest two men in Dublin after discovering €2.3 million worth of drugs, including cocaine and MDMA tablets.

Two men have been charged after a significant operation by Gardaí (Irish police) on Friday, which led to the seizure of a large quantity of drugs in Dublin.

A male in his 50s and another in his 60s were arrested on allegations of drug trafficking following the uncovering of 18kg (40lb) of suspected cocaine. This particular batch has an estimated street value of €1.8 million (£1.5 million).

During the operation, law enforcement also confiscated an extra 4kg (9lb) of suspected cocaine from a vehicle found at the scene, valued at approximately €400,000 (£343,000).

In subsequent searches of various properties in Dublin, Gardaí discovered further illicit substances, including 5,000 MDMA tablets that are estimated to be worth €50,000 (£43,000) and 4kg (9lb) of cannabis, valued at around €56,000 (£48,000).

The cumulative estimated street value of all drugs seized amounts to over €2.3 million (£1.9 million).

The two men are set to appear before Dublin District Court on Monday, with Gardaí indicating that their investigations into the case are ongoing.

In an unrelated incident, the Dublin council reported significant flooding on roads throughout the town due to heavy rainfall, with some areas experiencing 30mm of rain within just one hour.

Furthermore, there were reports concerning local wildlife disturbed by quad bike riders in Lisnagra Woods. In a tragic event, a teenager was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Nugentstown, County Meath. In another court matter, Simon O’Donovan, 44, from Sperrin Road, Dublin 12, has been granted bail during a hearing at the High Court.
