Despite his absence at previous matches, Trump’s anticipated presence coincides with his last year’s appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup final, also at MetLife Stadium, where he received a mixed reception from the crowd. Many booed the president as he took the stage for the trophy presentation, and Chelsea captain Reece James appeared confused when Trump remained on the podium during the trophy lift.

While Trump prepares for this high-profile event, other officials from his administration have been more visible. Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, attended the USMNT’s opening match against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, which ended in a 4-1 victory for the U.S.

Infantino and Trump share a long-standing relationship, with the FIFA president visiting the Oval Office multiple times leading up to the World Cup.
