Trump seeks Supreme Court approval to continue construction of the White House ballroom, claiming it’s key for national security.
President Donald Trump has filed a request with the Supreme Court on Friday, urging it to permit the continuation of his White House ballroom construction. This plea comes just a week after a federal appeals court mandated a halt to the $400 million project.
The administration’s move follows an injunction from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which upheld a prior ruling by a federal district judge. This injunction is scheduled to take effect on August 21.
Trump’s administration argues that the ballroom, which involves the demolition of the East Wing of the White House carried out last year without Congressional notification, is vital for national security. The project includes what Trump refers to as a “drone port” on the roof, which he claims enhances military readiness.

In the application filed with the Supreme Court, U.S. Solicitor General D. John Sauer emphasized the significance of the building as a national security complement. According to Sauer, “This case involves an extraordinary and unlawful injunction that will halt the ongoing construction of the integrated military complex, including a totally secure ballroom space, at the East Wing of the White House, which is vitally required by national security.”
Sauer’s arguments further posited that if the appellate court’s block remains enforced, it would unjustly empower a single district judge to determine what construction is deemed “strictly necessary” for the protection of the President, his family, and other visitors, including foreign leaders.
As this legal battle unfolds, the administration awaits the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the future of the ballroom project and its implications for security at the White House.
