Trump Media unveils Truth API, offering subscribers early access to prominent Truth Social posts, igniting discussions on insider trading and market impacts.
Trump Media has taken a bold step by launching Truth API, a service that provides subscribers with faster access to posts from key Truth Social accounts, including that of former President Donald Trump. This new offering, introduced over the weekend, targets institutional customers who are interested in leveraging the insights gained from Trump’s 13 million followers on the platform.
Following the announcement, Trump made a post about nearing a deal to end his conflict with Iran, a message that typically has the potential to influence oil futures in financial markets. According to reports, those with early access could take advantage of such information for potential profits.
The pricing for Truth API has not been publicly disclosed by Trump Media, but sources suggest it could range from $60,000 to $100,000 per month, especially for long-term commitments. Jim Bianco, president of Bianco Research, expressed that this development could lead to more frequent posts that sway market movements.
However, responses to the launch have been mixed. Shaun Maguire, a venture capitalist and Trump supporter, voiced his concerns on social media, suggesting that such actions undermine Trump’s past policy achievements. Dean Baker from the Center for Economic and Policy Research highlighted the potential risks posed to everyday Americans, raising questions about the ethical implications of profiting from insider information.
Finance journalist James Surowiecki noted potential legal issues surrounding the service, arguing that it violates insider trading laws since Trump may reveal government-related information in exchange for money. Such actions could make those who pay for the service complicit in receiving misappropriated information.
Critics, including Jason Calacanis, pointed out that this initiative reflects poorly on those close to Trump, suggesting they fail to provide honest feedback about the viability of such projects. Joe Saluzzi from Themis Trading indicated that Truth API could enable its users to bypass regular trading processes, giving them an unfair advantage.
Furthermore, responses from analysts revealed skepticism about the actual value of the posts, with some stating that Trump’s communications often create more noise than signal. Vuk Vuković from Oraclum Capital stated that keeping track of Trump’s posts in relation to market responses may not yield profitable outcomes due to inconsistencies in market reactions.
Overall, the launch of Truth API has sparked a debate around political integrity, market fairness, and the ethical boundaries within which public figures operate. As Trump continues to navigate his role in the media space, the implications of such services remain a focal point of discussion.
