Trevoh Chalobah completes a €30m transfer to Como, ending his two-decade relationship with Chelsea, to join Cesc Fabregas in Serie A.

Trevoh Chalobah has officially ended his twenty-year association with Chelsea, finalizing a permanent transfer to Italian side Como. The versatile defender leaves Stamford Bridge to join an ambitious project led by former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas.

The deal, reportedly worth €30m with additional add-ons, marks a significant move for both Chalobah and Como as they aim to strengthen their squad in Serie A. Chalobah had agreed to personal terms with the club weeks prior, and the transfer was only contingent on settling the club-to-club fee.

Chalobah leaves Chelsea after an impressive last season where he made 47 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist. His departure comes in light of Chelsea’s recent signing of defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, signaling a shift in the club’s defensive lineup.

Having joined Chelsea as an Under-9, Chalobah progressed through the youth ranks and was instrumental in the team that won the UEFA Youth League in 2016, along with consecutive FA Youth Cups. After successful loan spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and Lorient, he established himself in Chelsea’s first team shortly after turning 22.

Expressing excitement about the new challenge, Chalobah said, “I can’t wait to bring my experience to the team, feel the incredible atmosphere at the stadium, and connect with the fans. I will give my absolute all every single day to make history together.”

Despite not securing silverware during his tenure, Chalobah managed to secure clean sheets in both the League Cup and FA Cup finals during his debut season, alongside winning the Club World Cup. Last season, he was a vital part of Chelsea’s defense, facing injuries but still managing to be a late addition to the England World Cup squad.

The defensive transition to Italian football could mirror the paths of other English defenders who have tasted success in Serie A, such as Fikayo Tomori and Chris Smalling. For Fabregas, the addition of Chalobah signals a bold statement of intent for Como, confirming the club’s ambition to compete in the league with experienced players who have the technical quality and versatility on the field.
