The Weeknd has concluded a successful seven-show run in the UK, generating more than $350,000 for the United Nations World Food Programme and Global Citizen. This impressive total follows a five-night residency in August at Wembley Stadium, after previous performances at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium in June.
Over 450,000 fans attended the shows, with attendees arriving from nearly 150 countries, reflecting The Weeknd’s immense global appeal. In addition to standard ticket purchases, Global Citizen facilitated a unique opportunity for fans to earn ticket access by participating in campaigns aimed at combating global poverty. This initiative significantly contributed to the funds raised.
London’s Mayor, Sadiq Khan, commented on the economic impact of The Weeknd’s performances. “London has been hugely proud to welcome The Weeknd for more shows than any other city in the world this year,” Khan stated. “His five performances have brought hundreds of thousands of fans to Wembley Stadium, providing a huge boost to our tourism and hospitality industries, and showing why London is the music capital of the world.”
This charitable effort aligns with The Weeknd’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy, notably through his XO Humanitarian Fund, which he established with a personal donation of $500,000 in March 2022 to support humanitarian efforts.
The European leg of the After Hours Til Dawn tour is set to continue with sold-out performances at Croke Park in Dublin on August 22 and 23, before moving to cities including Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon. The tour will then head to Asia, culminating in Kuala Lumpur on November 5.
