Slipknot has officially announced the departure of DJ and keyboardist Sid Wilson, marking the end of an era for the heavy metal band that has spanned nearly 30 years. The news comes as a surprise to fans, given Wilson’s long-standing involvement since the group’s inception.

In a statement posted on their Instagram account, which has since been taken down, Slipknot shared, “Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.” This announcement comes shortly after rumors about Wilson’s exit had been circulating.

Wilson had been a core member of Slipknot since 1998, which was a year before the group’s first studio album was released. The news of his departure was first reported by TMZ in late July; however, the reasons behind the band’s decision remain unclear.

On the same day as the announcement, Slipknot guitarist Jim Root took to Instagram to address the situation. He posted a video accompanied by the band’s 2008 track “‘Til We Die,” urging fans to not jump to conclusions. Root wrote, “Don’t believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”

Wilson is the latest in a series of departures from the band. In recent years, Craig Jones left in 2023, while Chris Fehn exited in 2019. The loss of iconic members also includes the passing of Joey Jordison in 2021 and Paul Gray in 2020, which has undoubtedly impacted the band’s dynamics.

Slipknot has released multiple albums, including the self-titled “Slipknot,” “Iowa,” and “Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses.” Their last album, “The End, So Far,” was released in 2022. As for their live performances, the band last appeared at a music and tattoo festival in Ohio in July 2025.
