Real Madrid Signs Denzel Dumfries for €20 Million

Denzel Dumfries joins Real Madrid from Inter for €20 million, increasing competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

Real Madrid has officially confirmed the signing of Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan after activating the Dutch defender’s €20 million release clause. The experienced right-back has inked a four-year deal and is set to compete with Trent Alexander-Arnold as José Mourinho strengthens his squad ahead of the new season.

The 30-year-old arrives at the Santiago Bernabéu after having played five successful seasons with Inter. His transfer comes via an agreement made with the Serie A club, as confirmed by a statement released by Real Madrid. The club revealed that Dumfries’s contract will run until June 30, 2030.

Signing for a fee of €20 million (approximately £21.6m/$29.1m), Dumfries departs Inter after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most reliable wing-backs. He made a total of 207 appearances for the Italian side, netting 27 goals and contributing 28 assists, while also helping the club secure two Serie A titles.

Although his final season at Inter saw him sidelined due to ankle surgery, Dumfries managed to feature in 28 matches, scoring five goals. His addition to Real Madrid provides another seasoned option on the right side of defense, filling a void left by the expiration of Dani Carvajal’s contract, leaving Alexander-Arnold initially as the only recognized senior right-back in the squad.

The announcement of Dumfries’s transfer is part of an active summer for Real Madrid, which is also seeing other players join the squad, including Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva, and Marc Cucurella under Mourinho’s management. The club is making substantial efforts to enhance its roster as it prepares for the upcoming season.
