Paul Pogba Set for Contract Termination at Monaco

Paul Pogba’s Monaco stint is ending as the club moves to terminate his contract following a severe thigh injury.

Paul Pogba’s career at Monaco is set to conclude as the club prepares to terminate his contract following a new thigh injury. The French midfielder, who previously played for Manchester United, has faced numerous challenges since his return to Ligue 1, participating in only a handful of matches due to ongoing injuries.

A recent incident during a small-sided training game led to his collapse in severe pain, confirming Monaco’s plans to part ways with the 30-year-old. Reports indicate that the club had already decided several weeks ago to terminate Pogba’s two-year deal after his left thigh injury was sustained on Tuesday.

Monaco informed Pogba that he was free to explore other club opportunities and the two parties will now negotiate financial terms regarding his payout, which is reported to be under £44,000 per week. Since his return from a doping ban that was reduced on appeal, Pogba’s Monaco chapter has been riddled with setbacks.

After joining Monaco in a bid to revive his career post-Juventus, Pogba’s stint has been anything but successful, plagued by injuries that continued to curtail his playing time. The club viewed pre-season as critical to evaluating his fitness, yet he managed only 45 minutes during a friendly against Saint-Priest.

Monaco’s management has approached the situation delicately, expressing a considerable level of respect for Pogba, but disappointment is also apparent. The club’s general manager, Thiago Scuro, addressed the media, emphasizing the project with Pogba did not unfold as expected, stating, “The truth is that the project (with Pogba) did not work well last season. When we started it, the expectations we had were very different. Is he likely to leave? Yes, of course.”

Pogba had previously shared his relief upon signing with Monaco, describing his experience as a difficult period but expressing hope, “We went through hell. A time of darkness. But this is my second chance, I have to use it.” Unfortunately, that opportunity now appears to be coming to an end.

On Tuesday afternoon, he was scheduled for an MRI to assess the full extent of his thigh injury. Following the finalization of his departure from Monaco, Pogba faces a significant crossroads in his career, as he has reportedly been offered opportunities from MLS clubs. The future remains uncertain, whether he will pursue a new team or contemplate retirement.
