Manchester City has finalized a €95 million deal for Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who shone at the recent World Cup.
Manchester City has confirmed an agreement with Lille for the transfer of Ayyoub Bouaddi, the Moroccan midfielder who impressed at this summer’s World Cup. The total transfer fee stands at €95 million, plus an additional €5 million in potential add-ons.
Bouaddi, 18, is set to join City on a contract lasting until 2031, with an option for a further year. This move follows the departure of Rodri, who has transferred to Barcelona for an initial fee of €60 million. Bernardo Silva has also left the club after his contract ended, while Tijjani Reijnders has signed with Al Qadsiah.
City was reportedly keen on Bouaddi prior to the World Cup, where he started five out of six matches for Morocco, helping the team reach the quarterfinals. During the matchup against Brazil, Bouaddi’s performance stood out, as he recorded more touches than any other player on his team during a 1-1 draw.
At the club level, Bouaddi became Lille’s youngest player to debut at just 16 years and three days. His development at Lille’s academy has seen him grow into a key player, with 42 appearances and an assist in the most recent season, contributing to Lille finishing third in Ligue 1.
In May, he switched international allegiance from France to Morocco and made his debut, showcasing his skill set that includes not just dribbling under pressure but a keen tactical awareness that distinguishes him among younger players.
Football experts have noted that every World Cup reveals a breakout star, and Bouaddi has certainly captured attention for his maturity on the field, an impressive feat for someone so young. His ability to handle pressure brilliantly against seasoned players speaks volumes about his potential for growth in the competitive landscape of European football.
As City prepares for the new season, the addition of Bouaddi marks a significant move in their ongoing efforts to bolster the midfield following recent departures, setting the stage for what could be an exciting chapter in the teenager’s career.
