Liverpool Rejects Inter’s Second Bid for Curtis Jones

Liverpool has turned down a second transfer bid from Inter Milan for Curtis Jones, holding firm on their £35m asking price despite contract concerns.

Liverpool has officially rejected a second transfer bid from Inter Milan for midfielder Curtis Jones, as the Italian giants persist in their pursuit of the talented player. The Merseyside club is standing firm on their asking price of £35 million, even though Jones is in the final year of his contract.

The Reds believe that their valuation is justified, referencing similar transfer fees in recent deals. For instance, London club Tottenham Hotspur paid £52 million to Atletico Madrid for Conor Gallagher back in January, another player who had one year left on his contract. Liverpool is keen to use such benchmarks to support their financial expectations regarding Jones.

Jones, who hails from Liverpool and has progressed through the club’s Kirkby academy, has made 228 first-team appearances since his debut in 2019. Last season, he played 49 times across all competitions, although he started only 28 matches. This lack of consistent play has led to frustration for the midfielder, who even had to fill in as a makeshift right-back towards the end of the previous campaign.

Currently, contract negotiations for a new deal have stalled, and there are no ongoing discussions between Jones and the club. According to The Athletic, Liverpool would still be open to exploring a new contract if both parties can find common ground regarding the player’s expectations versus what the club is prepared to offer.

Inter Milan initially attempted to secure Jones during the January transfer window, presenting a loan proposal with an option to buy, but that was promptly dismissed by Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes. Despite this setback, Inter continues to see Jones as an ideal addition to their squad, which dominated Serie A last season.

To secure Jones, Inter may need to orchestrate a “transfer domino” effect involving other players, particularly Davide Frattesi, to free up financial resources for a higher bid. Until such funds come into play and enable a more substantial offer, it appears likely that Jones will remain with Liverpool for the last year of his current contract.
