Keke Palmer opens up about how crying helps her recharge emotionally and shares other self-care routines she practices.

Keke Palmer, juggling her various roles as an actress, host, and mother, recently emphasized the significance of emotional release in her busy life. During a recent episode of the podcast “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” Palmer shared her approach to managing stress and finding time for self-care.

“I cry actually alone quite a lot,” Palmer revealed, adding that she often designates moments for this emotional outlet. “But I love to cry alone, and I save space and hold space for it.” For her, crying serves as a means to release pent-up emotions, which can sometimes stem from past experiences. “It’s a release of this sadness that you need brought out that you buried. Maybe it was from yesterday, maybe it was from 10 years ago,” she reflected.

Health psychologist Grace Tworek supported Palmer’s view, explaining that crying can play a vital role in emotional regulation. According to Tworek, it helps individuals transition away from a heightened stress response, leading to feelings of calm and clarity.

In addition to crying, Palmer has developed a variety of routines that assist her in unwinding. The 32-year-old actress expressed that a good night’s sleep is essential, specifically stating her satisfaction when she can retire by 10:30 p.m. She also makes the most of her time during short trips, incorporating brief naps amidst her hectic schedule.

Engaging in Pilates has become another crucial aspect of Palmer’s self-care regimen. She remarked that this practice helps her achieve balance and combats feelings of disconnection. Additionally, for emotional burdens tied to difficult relationships, Palmer resorts to a unique visualization technique she describes as “cord-cutting.” This method involves mentally severing ties with energy-draining individuals, reinforcing her emotional independence.

Palmer has previously discussed her commitment to personal wellness, emphasizing the importance of setting aside time for one’s self in the morning. She indicated to Marie Claire that she tries to carve out five hours each morning to focus solely on her needs. “Those rituals really help me to feel secure in myself because those are things that I’m doing with myself,” she explained.

Reflecting further on her personal growth, Palmer shared in a conversation with Women’s Health that one of her most pivotal wellness tips is, “cutting people off.” She stated, “Nobody cares. Not like my baby does. He actually needs me. And it put things into perspective.” This liberation became a key part of her emotional health strategy.

Palmer’s open discussion around her emotional practices offers a glimpse into how individuals can find empowerment and healing in vulnerability. As she continues to navigate her multifaceted career, the actor remains dedicated to prioritizing her mental health and emotional well-being.
