eToro outperforms Q2 profit expectations and plans to acquire TradeZero for $231 million to boost its U.S. presence.

Trading platform eToro reported on Tuesday that it exceeded Wall Street’s expectations for second-quarter profit, sharing plans to acquire its rival TradeZero in a deal that could reach up to $231 million in cash and stock. This strategic move aims to bolster eToro’s expansion efforts within the United States.

eToro’s net income for the second quarter stood at $42 million, marking a substantial increase from the $7 million recorded in the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter was reported at $131 million, exceeding analysts’ predictions of $118 million, reflecting increased trading activity among its user base.

The acquisition of TradeZero, known for its commission-free trading, aligns with eToro’s goal of enhancing its U.S. operations. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year, pending regulatory approvals.

eToro’s Chief Executive, Yoni Assia, emphasized the importance of this acquisition, stating, “The purchase of TradeZero is a significant milestone for us. It enables us to combine our resources and expertise to provide an even better trading experience for our customers in the U.S. market.” He added that the move would facilitate a wider offering of services and tools for both companies’ users, setting the stage for future growth.

The firm has targeted U.S. expansion as a central part of its strategy. Assia mentioned that the acquisition would not only enhance their technological capabilities but also help in scaling their existing offerings to attract more users in the competitive U.S. trading market.

As eToro takes its next steps with the TradeZero acquisition, the company remains focused on navigating the changing landscape of the trading sector with innovative solutions and a commitment to its users.
