The decision happened on a Monday, shortly after the Super Bowl, when there had already been speculation about Clark’s future at the network. While ESPN was expected to formally announce the layoffs the following day, the company opted to break the news to Clark during the show to prevent him from learning of his fate through media sources.

Insiders revealed that ESPN and its sister network, NFL Network, are bracing for more layoffs, part of a broader strategy to cut costs at parent company Disney.
