Arsenal’s Christos Tzolis impresses with two assists in a 3-0 Community Shield win against Man City, winning over fans and manager Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal fans are celebrating the performance of their new summer signing, Christos Tzolis, who delivered two stunning assists in his competitive debut during a 3-0 triumph over Manchester City in the Community Shield.
The Greek winger showcased his talents at Wembley, demonstrating exactly why manager Mikel Arteta pursued him, having made a significant transfer from Club Brugge, reportedly for £34 million.
Tzolis made an instant impact, creating the second goal when Martin Odegaard delivered an inswinging cross from the right flank. Tzolis nodded the ball down at the back post to Kai Havertz, who headed it in from six yards. Gianluigi Donnarumma, despite getting a touch, could do nothing to prevent the goal.

Continuing to make his mark, Tzolis completed the match, tormenting the City defense with 42 touches, which included two big chances created and three key passes. His involvement in the third goal highlighted his vision and playmaking ability. Tzolis played a brilliant pass to Odegaard before the captain executed a splendid dummy shot to leave Donnarumma flat-footed and finished smoothly.
Former Everton winger Pat Nevin praised Tzolis’ contribution on BBC Radio 5 Live, noting the brilliance of the assist: “The ball is played to Tzolis and his pass to Odegaard is brilliant, who then instead of panicking, slows down.”
The energy surrounding Tzolis’ debut has electrified Arsenal supporters on social media. One fan tweeted, “Christos Tzolis might be one of our smartest and best signing in recent time. Just give me half of what you did in Club Brugge last season.” Another added, “I know everybody says not to pay attention to pre-season but Tzolis has looked a real gem. No hype signing but could have a huge impact.”
Mikel Arteta expressed optimism about Tzolis’ integration into the squad, stating, “I’m very pleased with him. First of all, the way he has adapted to the club, to the team, the connection he’s already generated with the boys. I think you’re going to love the player.”
Looking ahead, Arsenal fans hope Tzolis will maintain this momentum as they defend their Premier League title. Meanwhile, the defeat paints a grim picture for Manchester City, as Enzo Maresca faces the challenges of his first official match after taking over from Pep Guardiola, leaving him with pressing tasks ahead before the league campaign begins.
