Charles Barkley shares why he declined the wedding invitation from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, calling it a potential ‘crap show.’
Charles Barkley recently revealed that he declined the invitation to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, calling the event a potential “crap show.” During an episode of Unfiltered with Ricky Bo and Bill Colarulo on 97.5 The Fanatic, the NBA Hall of Famer discussed his decision and the reasoning behind it.
Barkley confirmed that he received an invitation to the highly anticipated wedding, which took place at Madison Square Garden on July 3. However, he opted out of attending without any hesitation. “I don’t go to weddings or funerals,” he stated, clarifying his general aversion to such events.
Despite declining the invitation, Barkley emphasized that his decision had nothing to do with the couple. He expressed admiration for both Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, both of whom he has a close relationship with. “But I did get an invite, and I politely declined because I thought it was going to be a crap show,” he remarked. “I love Travis and Jason, and I’ve only met Taylor one time.”
Choosing not to partake in one of the summer’s most talked-about events, Barkley mentioned preferring a quieter day to play golf instead. “I just want to hang out and play golf, and I don’t want to dress up and all that other stuff,” he said, while still appreciating the sentiment behind the invitation.
His announcement came after a suggestion from one of the show’s hosts, who noted that Barkley’s name hadn’t surfaced in relation to the star-studded wedding. The event featured a remarkable guest list of celebrities from both sports and entertainment worlds. Notables included Tom Brady, Erin Andrews, and Michael Strahan, among others.
After the ceremony, Strahan described the wedding as Swift and Kelce’s “dream wedding,” sharing his thoughts with viewers on Good Morning America that it truly was an amazing event. The buzz surrounding the wedding before and after the event has kept it in the headlines, reflecting its significance in both celebrity and sports circles.
