Tom Cruise is gearing up to return to the racetrack for a sequel to the iconic film Days of Thunder, and he’s bringing Anne Hathaway along for the ride. According to reports from Variety, Paramount Pictures has officially set a theatrical release date of June 2, 2028 for the much-anticipated film.

In a recently released clip, Cruise and Hathaway appear together in front of a striking yellow and lime green race car that features the announcement, “Days of Thunder Summer 2028.” During the video, Cruise playfully asks, “Now what?” to which Hathaway responds, “Now what? I’m gonna have this baby and then we’re gonna make this movie.” Cruise quickly agrees, saying, “That’s a good idea… You have the baby, then we’ll go make the movie.” The clip concludes with Cruise enthusiastically inviting fans to the movie’s release, stating, “We’re coming out summer of 2028. Don’t be late.”

In this sequel, Cruise, now 64, will reprise his role as the tenacious driver Cole Trickle. Hathaway, who is 43, will portray a race car team owner and engineer, although further details about the plot remain closely guarded. The film will be directed by Jonathan Levine, who previously helmed Long Shot and Mr. Irrelevant. Notably, Cruise will produce the film alongside renowned producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.

Days of Thunder 2 is set to be filmed for IMAX and will be released exclusively in theaters featuring premium formats such as Dolby Cinema and 4DX. Production is anticipated to commence in early 2027.

The original Days of Thunder, directed by the late Tony Scott and released in the summer of 1990, was a commercial success, grossing $82.6 million domestically and a total of $157.9 million worldwide, as reported by Deadline.
