Cristiano Ronaldo suggests he might retire this season after an illustrious career in football, having recently played in his sixth World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated that he may retire from professional football at the end of this season. The 41-year-old forward made this revelation during the recent World Cup held across the USA, Canada, and Mexico, marking the end of an illustrious chapter in his playing career.

Speaking to Vogue, Ronaldo stated, “This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.” His remarks come shortly after Portugal’s exit from the tournament, where they faced Spain in the Round of 16, concluding his participation in what he has confirmed to be his sixth and final World Cup.

In previous statements before the tournament, Ronaldo had expressed his intent for the 2026 World Cup to be his last appearance on a global stage, asserting, “I will retire when I want to, not when you want.” Having broken records throughout his career, he made history as the first player to score in six different World Cups, leaving the competition with a remarkable total of 11 goals across 27 appearances.

Despite advancing age, Ronaldo has remained a key figure in football, continuing to find the back of the net for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. He is notably close to achieving the milestone of 1,000 career goals and is currently contracted with the Saudi Arabian club until 2027.

Throughout his storied career, Ronaldo has amassed an unparalleled collection of accolades, including five Ballon d’Or trophies, five Champions League titles, and league honors in England, Spain, and Italy. Additionally, he has helped Portugal capture both the European Championship and the Nations League.

Ronaldo also holds the title of Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer and stands as the top goalscorer in men’s international football, having netted 146 goals for his national team.
