Tottenham Hotspur initiates negotiations for Folarin Balogun, aiming to bolster their squad with the €60 million striker from AS Monaco.
Tottenham Hotspur has ramped up its pursuit of attacking talent by initiating formal discussions to acquire Folarin Balogun from AS Monaco. The Premier League club is keen to enhance the attacking options available to manager Roberto De Zerbi with this potential transfer valued at approximately €60 million, following Balogun’s impressive performances in France.
The North London side has taken decisive steps to secure Balogun before the summer transfer window reaches its conclusion. As reported by French publication L’Equipe, Tottenham has laid the groundwork for a deal for the highly regarded striker.
After appointing renowned agent Jorge Mendes to represent him, Balogun has garnered interest from several European clubs, including Newcastle. However, Spurs appear to be leading the race for his signature.

Monaco is reportedly open to negotiations, as Balogun’s departure could significantly alter their transfer strategy and lessen the financial burden of potentially selling other key players like Lamine Camara. De Zerbi is particularly eager to bring the American international back to England.
During his time in Monaco, Balogun had an exceptional season, netting 19 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions. His impressive form continued on the international stage, where he made a notable impact in recent World Cup matches. Tottenham views the former Arsenal player as a crucial addition to rejuvenate an attack that has struggled with consistency.
With Dominic Solanke currently facing difficulties in finding the net, De Zerbi is in dire need of dependable forward options to help propel the team towards a European qualification spot. Balogun believes he still has unfinished business in the Premier League, having made only 10 senior appearances previously.
Despite the mounting interest from English clubs, AS Monaco head coach Filipe Luis is keen to retain his star player. Following a pre-season friendly win against Getafe, Luis expressed confidence in Balogun’s abilities and acknowledged the likelihood of receiving various offers for him. He stated, “He is one of our players. I know he’s going to receive a lot of offers given his last season and his World Cup performance. He’s a special player. You don’t find many players on the market with his attributes. If he stays, I’ll be really, really happy to have him with us.” Luis’ acknowledgment reflects Monaco’s favorable position, given that Balogun’s contract extends until June 30, 2028.
Tottenham must now act quickly to decide whether to meet the hefty €60 million asking price or look into alternative targets as the deadline approaches. If De Zerbi can successfully finalize a deal for Balogun, it would send a strong message regarding his ambitions for the upcoming campaign, as Spurs aim to assemble a squad capable of top-tier competition.
