Curtis Jones nears a transfer to Inter after a disagreement with Szoboszlai, but the Liverpool squad shows unity in training.

Curtis Jones seems on the verge of joining Inter Milan as he navigates a tumultuous period at Liverpool. The 25-year-old midfielder was recently at the center of a public disagreement with teammate Dominik Szoboszlai after their pre-season victory against Wrexham. The tension appeared to dissipate during a training session in Chicago, where Jones, Szoboszlai, and Kostas Tsimikas were spotted sharing a light moment together.

The argument, which stemmed from Szoboszlai giving the captain’s armband to Tsimikas during the match rather than to Jones, unfolded on the pitch and was captured on video by fans. Jones confronted Szoboszlai after the game, visibly agitated, and the exchange lasted for over two minutes. Tsimikas attempted to defuse the situation during the post-match lap of honor but, frustrated, dropped the armband onto the ground, prompting Jones to pick it up.

This incident sparked considerable chatter online, catching the attention of fans and analysts alike. In light of these developments, Szoboszlai chose to sidestep questions regarding the matter during a press conference, emphasizing the importance of unity within the team. “A couple of guys have left, and maybe we are not the oldest in the team, but we’ve been here a long time and we all want the best for the club and for each other,” he remarked.

Despite the outward signs of camaraderie during training, the situation with Jones remains delicate. According to sources, his future at Liverpool is uncertain, especially with Inter Milan reportedly ramping up their interest. The Serie A club’s renewed bid of €35 million follows an earlier rejection of €25 million for the midfielder. Liverpool has valued Jones at around €40 million, but as he is entering the final year of his contract, a compromise appears increasingly likely.

Jones, keen on proving himself as a leading player, finds himself sidelined under new head coach Andoni Iraola. Though he has made 228 appearances since joining the senior squad, nearly 40 percent of these have been as a substitute. This lack of involvement has reportedly contributed to his frustration regarding the armband incident.

As Iraola considers who to appoint as the new vice-captain following Andy Robertson’s departure, the dynamics within the squad remain under scrutiny. Szoboszlai, having been impressive during the pre-season, is a strong candidate for the role alongside captain Virgil van Dijk.

On the training ground, Liverpool has engaged in rigorous drills, even as the specter of the prior incident looms large. With around 200 VIP guests and key figures from Fenway Sports Group in attendance, the intensity of the session emphasized Iraola’s hands-on coaching style.

The next match against Leeds United looms as a pivotal moment for both the squad’s unity and Jones’s potential resolution to his situation at Anfield.
