Lionel Messi makes his return to the Inter Miami squad for the match against Columbus Crew, following a brief break after the World Cup.
Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has made his much-anticipated return to the matchday squad, and he is among the substitutes for the Herons’ Eastern Conference clash against the Columbus Crew. The Argentine has not been on the pitch for Miami since the team’s defeat in the World Cup final on July 19.
Messi’s comeback comes after a two-week break he took post-World Cup. He has resumed training earlier this week after missing the MLS All-Star Game during his time away. Messi will rejoin his teammates as they continue pushing for the Supporters’ Shield, a title that recognizes the best-performing team in the regular season.
Joining Messi on the field is his compatriot Rodrigo De Paul, who quickly integrated back into the starting lineup after his performance in the World Cup. De Paul, who was a crucial element for Argentina during their run, takes to the pitch alongside Brazilian football star Casemiro, marking their first time playing together for Miami since Casemiro’s impressive MLS debut against Montreal.
Meanwhile, another notable player, Luis Suarez, aims to capitalize on his resurgence under new manager Guillermo Hoyos. Suarez has scored six goals in his last three matches, including a decisive penalty that earned the team victory against Montreal in their previous outing. He has formed a formidable partnership up front with designated player German Berterame.
Messi’s return is a significant boost for Miami, who will have to balance their efforts across multiple competitions as they anticipate a busy schedule ahead. Following the match against Columbus, the team shifts its focus to a fixture against Atletico San Luis on Wednesday, part of a crowded Leagues Cup schedule.
