Barcelona faces disciplinary action after Atletico Madrid’s complaint about their pursuit of Julian Alvarez outside transfer window limits.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has initiated a disciplinary investigation into FC Barcelona following a formal complaint lodged by Atletico Madrid. The complaint alleges that Barcelona illegally approached star forward Julian Alvarez outside the designated transfer window.

According to reports from Marca, the RFEF has officially opened extraordinary disciplinary proceedings against Barcelona. This move comes after Atletico Madrid filed their complaint on June 30 regarding Barcelona’s attempts to engage with Alvarez.

Atletico claims that Barcelona made contact with the 26-year-old Argentine forward outside the legally established timeframe allowed by sporting regulations, violating transfer protocols. Both clubs have now been officially notified about the disciplinary inquiry and must present their respective accounts of events.

The rivalry between these two La Liga powerhouses has intensified considerably, particularly concerning Alvarez. Atletico’s CEO, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, previously warned that the club would take stringent measures to protect their interests against any illicit approaches. Despite the ongoing investigation, Barcelona remains intent on securing their primary attacking target. Club president Joan Laporta publicly acknowledged on July 13 that they had already submitted a formal offer for Alvarez.

However, Atletico Madrid maintains a firm stance, resolutely refusing any negotiations surrounding a potential transfer. This rigid position has transformed the pursuit of Alvarez into one of the summer’s most contentious transfer sagas.

While the two clubs engage in boardroom battles, the decision of Alvarez remains a pivotal element in the negotiations. The player has openly voiced his desire to leave the Metropolitano and seek a new challenge, expressing this sentiment during the recent World Cup.

Despite complications arising from the ongoing legal dispute, Barcelona has identified Alvarez as a crucial addition to their lineup heading into the next season. The club perceives the RFEF’s notification as a standard procedural requirement in such cases. Laporta’s team is currently preparing their legal defense while also seeking a breakthrough in the stalled talks.

A significant moment in this transfer saga is on the horizon as Atletico begins their pre-season preparations. Alvarez is scheduled to report back for training on August 10, prompting the player to clarify his immediate future with the club. This upcoming meeting could be a turning point in breaking the current deadlock between the two clubs.

Barcelona appears reluctant to allow this situation to extend indefinitely. While securing Alvarez remains a top priority, the Catalan side is simultaneously pursuing alternative attacking targets in case the negotiations fail to materialize.
