Real Madrid Pursues Rodri from Manchester City

Real Madrid is actively pursuing a deal to sign Rodri, the 30-year-old midfielder from Manchester City, as he enters the final year of his contract. Although club-to-club discussions have not yet commenced, Madrid remains optimistic about reaching an agreement and is operating under the assumption that Rodri will join them this summer.

Rodri’s current contract with Manchester City runs until 2027, but the club continues to engage with him regarding his future. They are hopeful that he will continue to be an integral part of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the 2026-27 season. Initially, Madrid sources were adamant that Rodri was not in their plans. The midfielder’s anticipated move is part of a larger player exodus from Manchester City this summer, which follows Pep Guardiola’s departure and the arrival of Maresca. In addition to Rodri, John Stones and Bernardo Silva have also exited the club.

Currently, Rodri is set to undergo surgery due to a back issue, and his return timeline remains uncertain. In previous comments, he expressed a desire to return to Spain and play for Real Madrid. “Would I like to play in Spain again, in La Liga, in Madrid? I would like to return, yes, obviously,” he stated during March’s international break.

Rodri joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has since accumulated numerous accolades, including four Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy. He has made 298 appearances for City, contributing 28 goals and 32 assists.

The possible signing of Rodri has generated excitement among Real Madrid supporters, particularly since previous club officials, including president Florentino Perez, had previously hesitated about pursuing him. Notably, this change of heart comes after Rodri’s standout performance at the World Cup.
