Cardi B recently shared her admiration for the contributions of African-Americans in the ongoing fight for civil rights, particularly acknowledging their impact on the lives of Latino and Caribbean people in the United States. Speaking during an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, the rapper expressed her gratitude for the sacrifices made by older generations in the battle for equality.

During the discussion, Cardi emphasized, “I mean, I feel like the reason why Caribbeans like me, [my] family and Latinos and Hispanic people, the reason why they could thrive in this country is because Black African-Americans fought for everybody to be equal.” She continued by stating the crucial role that African-Americans played in ensuring a thriving environment for marginalized communities. “If it wasn’t for them, it wouldn’t be no Caribbeans thriving here. They were the ones that fought for this,” she remarked, reinforcing her appreciation for their efforts.

Cardi also highlighted the importance of remembering and honoring African-American history, especially in the face of attempts to diminish its significance in educational settings. “It’s important for the history and it’s important to give flowers because somebody wants to erase the history out of these schools, but you got to keep these histories alive,” she urged. The Grammy-winning artist cleverly added, “Let me not get too political. I might get in trouble.”

This sentiment is not new for Cardi, who has expressed similar thoughts during her tour dates, including a March performance where she reiterated that her Latino fans could not enjoy their present circumstances without the struggles endured by African-Americans. Throughout her 35-date tour, Cardi advocated against ICE raids and the deportation of migrants, even humorously threatening to pepper spray ICE officers attending her shows.

In another segment of the interview, Cardi B was spotted alongside NFL star Stefon Diggs at a charity event, showing her ongoing commitment to social issues beyond her music career. Furthermore, her captivating appearance at the Met Gala with a stunning Marc Jacobs gown caught the attention of fans and fashion enthusiasts alike.

Overall, Cardi B continues to use her platform to honor the past and speak on issues relevant to her community, proving her dedication not just to her art, but also to the social justice landscape.
