Ronaldinho Makes Surprise Move to Ravenna in Serie C

Brazilian legend Ronaldinho signs with Italian third-tier club Ravenna, with possibilities of returning to play at 46 years old.

Brazilian icon Ronaldinho has made headlines once again after signing with Italian third-tier side Ravenna. This move comes over a decade after he last graced the professional football pitch. Initially, club officials hinted that the former superstar’s involvement would primarily focus on marketing activities. However, that statement did little to quell excitement around the potential for the 46-year-old to participate in competitive matches.

Ronaldinho’s signing with Ravenna marks a remarkable return to Italy, a country where he previously enjoyed a successful stint with AC Milan. His contract was revealed via Gazzetta, and he is set to be officially presented on June 23 at a special event in Miami.

The Brazilian star last played competitively for Fluminense in 2015, since when he has mainly appeared in exhibition games and legends events. Now, he joins Ravenna under the guidance of coach Andrea Mandorlini as the club gears up for the 2026-27 season.

Although initial statements indicated that Rolandinho wouldn’t play, general manager Braida later suggested that the possibility of him stepping onto the pitch still exists. “Ronaldinho is a timeless champion. He has signed with Ravenna and, for a club like ours, it’s an extraordinary coup,” he stated. “Will he play? We’ll see, but it’s not ruled out. As I already said, he is a timeless champion.”

Despite the uncertainty regarding his on-field participation, Ronaldinho exuded enthusiasm about joining the Ravenna project. The legendary playmaker, a former winner of the Champions League with Barcelona and the 2002 World Cup with Brazil, is eager to share his passion for football with the Ravenna supporters. “New colours, same smile,” he remarked. “I can’t wait to be able to dance on the ball again to write a new story together with Ignazio and the whole Cipriani family. Football has always been a source of joy for me, and I want to bring the same spirit to Ravenna.”

His official unveiling will take place in Miami on June 23, at which point further details regarding his role at the club are expected to surface. For the moment, anticipation hangs over whether Ronaldinho will actually take part in competitive matches. Even if he doesn’t end up on the pitch, his mere presence is projected to substantially raise Ravenna’s profile as the club prepares for the upcoming season.
